For adoption a 6 year old Chihuahua x Jack Rusell called Lexi.
We think that Lexi would benefit from living with an older retired couple who hasn’t got any children in the home and who is at home every day. Lexi needs to be an only dog.
Lexi will take time to adjust to her new owners. Lexi's humans should allow Lexi to approach them, and its likely that it will take up to a minimum or four days before you will be able to touch he. Lexi loves her food and playing, the more toys the better! Lexi's preference is small cat toys. Once you have formed a trust bond with her, Lexi is the most loving and loyal dog. Lexi would benefit from recall training and needs further practise at sitting and waiting whilst on walks. Lexi is obedient most of the time and with further training she will be even better.
Lexi will happily be walked by a dog walker away from her trusted human. Lexi is not phased by people outside as long as they don't touch her. Lexi gets very anxious when you bring people into the home and although we have measures in place to make these encounters as less stressful as feasibly possible you cannot guarantee that she won't bite. Lexi doesn't react well to sudden or unforeseen movements by visitors in the house. Lexi is best placed in her crate when people enter the property until she has stopped barking. Once Lexi is settled we remove her from the crate and let her have a free roam. Visitors are advised not to make eye contact, talk to Lexi in a child like voice or touch her. If the visitor goes from sitting to standing, Lexi will need to be placed on a lead or held to prevent charging until she is confident with your visitor. We have one noticed after approx. four visits by the same person Lexi's behaviour is completely transformed, which is promising.
Lexi is a massive space invader and loves getting herself nestled underneath the duvet next to her trusted humans. Lexi is crate trained and is just as happy spending the night on a mound of blankets with a cuddly toy to keep her company.
Lexi loves being brushed and we have been advised that she enjoys a bath. Lexi is tolerant when having her nails and the long hair around her ears cut, however she will only stay still for a short period of time.
Lexi is cat friendly, no children (untested), travels well in the car is good at the vets but is nervous so will need to be muzzled.
Lexi knows the commands Sit, Lie down, Paw, Wee wees and In your bed.
Lexi loves going out on walks, but she must stay on her lead and harness at all times due to having no recall.
