Charlie is a 15 month old male Springer Spaniel.
Charlie is a big goofy teenager, he is handsome and loving but like most teenage dogs, has lots of energy and requires further training. Charlie is a wonderful dog and in the right home will make someone extremely happy.
Charlie has already had two homes before coming into foster, so it is especially important that his next one is with his forever family.
Charlie is a large spaniel, he is excitable and can be strong, so he needs an experienced home where he will get lots of exercise and stimulation. This needs to be a mix of running off the lead (in a secure field), and calmer walks where he learns to focus on his owner and walk to heel. Charlie is very smart and learns quickly but he is easily distracted in new places, so his new family will need to help him continue his learning both in and out of the home.
Charlie is food motivated and has responded well to training in foster.
Charlie is calmer in the home every day, and now mostly settles and sleeps in the evenings. Charlie can be left for a couple of hours but can be worried by sounds outside the home causing him to bark, so he benefits from some calming music when left.
Charlie is mostly house trained however he does mark. This has stopped in his current foster home but he will do it when visiting new homes so this behaviour will likely reappear when he is adopted, and will need to be worked on.
Charlie likes other dogs however can be boisterous and not always respond to signals from other dogs asking him to stop what he is doing. Charlie has shown some reactivity around intact males. Charlie can bark at other dogs on a lead although this appears to be frustration not aggression.
Charlie would benefit from another dog to learn from and has lived happily in foster with a well-behaved small spaniel, and played nicely with many other dogs he has met.
Charlie sleeps happily in a crate in his fosters bedroom at night.
Charlie has lived with children previously but was rehomed due to biting a child around his food. Charlie has shown no aggression or guarding behaviours in foster.
When he arrived in foster, Charlie did hump. This has now stopped with people, and greatly reduced with other dogs but may be a behaviour that reappears until he feels settled in a new home.
Charlie needs an experienced home that has time for him, and he will reward his family endlessly in return.
