Getting to know Mika

Everything you need to know about Mika, her personality and the home she is hoping for.

Some dogs just make you smile the moment you meet them, and Mika is absolutely one of those dogs. She is a petite Husky with a big personality, a playful streak and a rather impressive ability to make everyone she meets fall a little bit in love with her. Her first hello can be a little enthusiastic (calmly introducing yourself is terribly overrated when you're Mika!), but once the excitement is out of the way she is very happy to settle down for strokes, fuss and some quality human attention.

Mika loves getting out for a walk and is genuinely lovely on the lead. She notices what is going on around her and then carries on with her walk, rather than becoming overly focused on everything she encounters, and she loves sniffing, exploring and investigating all the important smells. She would really appreciate somewhere secure for the occasional full-speed Husky zoomies. Once the adventures are over, Mika has an off switch and settles nicely at home. She is comfortable being left for a couple of hours and isn't destructive.

Mika has always been an only dog, but she is friendly, playful and relaxed when meeting other dogs. She could share her home with a dog who enjoys a good game but also appreciates their own space, or she would be perfectly happy as your one and only, as long as she has doggy friends to meet up with regularly. Cats are a no: she has shown far too much interest around them, so she needs a cat-free home. Mika could potentially live with children aged 10+ who are comfortable around a bouncy, enthusiastic dog and understand that even the life and soul of the party sometimes wants a little space.

Through absolutely no fault of her own. Mika's owner is living with a terminal illness and, knowing there will come a point when he can no longer care for her, has made the incredibly difficult decision to start looking for her new family now. His biggest wish is to know that Mika is happy, settled and loved before that time comes. He has put a huge amount of love, time and effort into her training, and it shows: she is a real credit to him. Mika will stay safely with her owner in Basingstoke while we find the right home for her.

Mika is looking for someone who understands the Husky breed and can give her the right balance of exercise, enrichment, companionship and downtime. A secure garden is a must as she can be a Houdini, but most important is an owner who enjoys getting out and about and can give her an active, fulfilling lifestyle. Please consider the needs of the Husky breed carefully before applying. Mika may be fabulous, but that fabulousness does come with a fair amount of fluff!
